Yes, I’m Still Here

It has been a long time since I’ve posted anything. Circumstances and life changing events have prevented me doing much over the last few weeks. However, I have managed to pick up a few good images in the Pierre, SD area.

Not as exciting as photographing my first American Woodcock but it is still a pretty nice image of a Cedar Waxwing. I alway like getting these shots of birds tossing their fruit into the air prior to swallowing.
There was a decent spring fallout here but I wasn’t able to make the most of it. I did see quite a few Magnolia Warblers.
Last year, when I was shooting for the high number of species, this is one I never could find. Rose-breasted Grosbeaks are not usually difficult birds but for some reason they were last year. I got fairly close to this one a few weeks ago.
Here’s another species I failed to find last year. This spring, they were unusually common. I saw several Philadelphia Vireos almost every day I was able to get out.
Chestnut-sided Warblers eluded me last year, this spring I have seen three.
I found this Common Nighthawk perched on a low branch early one morning. Easy shots!

This is probably the best photo of a Yellow-billed Cuckoo I have ever taken. I was birding on Laframboise Island early one morning, when it flushed from some bushes by the river and landed right in front of me, maybe 20 feet away. Then it just sat there for a few minutes while I took a few dozen images.
